IBM Research Ireland was established in July 2010. The lab is one of 9 research laboratories located outside of the United States. In Ireland, 60 percent of the technical staff has a doctorate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related field. R&D projects are being executed today in areas such as: a) HPC and Cloud infrastructures and system software, middleware, advanced frameworks and programming models/runtimes for data-intensive computing, b) Water Modelling, Prediction
and Control, including integration of multi-source real time data with predictive modelling for improved accuracy and lower complexity in Water Management, c) City Fabric, unifying software and systems platforms for integrated city operations, and others.

IBM is coordinating the project. IBM will also play a key role in design and demonstrating system/cloud and power management software for the dReDBox platform. Broader contributions will be also made to requirements specification and architecture design, as well as joining the entire consortium to vertical integration. As one of the value chain stakeholders, IBM will play a key role in facilitating exploitation planning of dReDBox results during and past project duration.
